VISION

EKTA FOUNDATION has been registered with a broad vision to serve the society and our community with priority. We, the Hijdas, or Chakkas, or transgeneders have had practically no voice even after we were declared independent in 1947. Majority of our community members are yet illiterate and need to be brought to the fore-front with all possible support. We have the same vision as others and that is helping all in need and marching towards prosperity. 

THE REASON

     Creativity is the need of marching towards prosperity. There are several Non Governmental Organizations in our country floated with several aims and objects. But each one has it’s own agenda. We felt lonely in this field and hence decided to fill in the gap to march towards that prosperity which is till date our dream. We hope we will be able to turn this dream into reality. And hence we have got the trust registered. 

     Our targeted slots in the society are having a broad vision. We look forward to partnership with like minded organizations and/or individuals. When it comes to service to the mankind, we have no differences of caste, creed or gender. For us, all are equal – the children of almighty. 

     For each and every act, the new concept asks for Reason. Reasons can be given for either positive acts or the negative. We feel giving reasons for doing something good is not the necessity but still as it has been looked as the new concept, we decided with fulfilling the gap. 

ABOUT US

     We are the most neglected community in the country labeled as the members of the transgender community more commonly known as Hijras or Chakkas. Our existence has been historically recorded way long during Mahabharata. “Shikhandi” belonged to our community. We have no proper residing places and have had to lead a nomadic life. Illiteracy is yet another reason for our backwardness. But we have a few who are now educated. Under advice from some social activists we are now coming closer through an organization registered in the name and style as “EKTA FOUNDATION”. We have many plans and projects in the pipeline and shall implement all step by step for the benefit of not only our community, but also other unprivileged women and children in our city and later extend to state. We shall organize Medical Camps from time to time in co-operation with other like minded NGOs. & Clubs. The community is also infected largely with HIV+ve AIDS cases as compared to others. And many amongst us need medication at an early date. As we hail from the below poverty line standards, we understand the problem of the poor better than others. What we need and are looking for is your support to build up a better environment. 

INTRODUCTION

     It requires nuts & bolts to fix all parts of a machine together and assembling a machine is not just tighten the nuts & bolts but it requires many more components to make it work for you with generating energy and build up productivity. And this is the need of the day, at least for us the forgotten class of the society. For years we have been suffering physically, mentally and in many other ways. We do speak but have no voice. We do live but as good as dead. Finding solutions seems to be easy but yet we fail in attaining goals. We have plenty of reasons to cover up our failures. But for us it is all past now. We have found a new path to grab the success with your support. We are sure you shall lend your valued support to us as it is for a good cause.

AIMS & OBJECTS AND PROJECTIONS OF THE TRUST

     EKTA FOUNDATION, a trust established by the Mumbai based transgender community in the country especially for the benefit of the downtrodden in the society. Transgender community in India is totally neglected by the society and by the Government since several decades and according to the latest international findings published on the Internet, around eleven percent of the population of the world is from this segment. 

     EKTA FOUNDATION shall not only look after the wellbeing of transgender but also shall look after various problems faced by sex workers, their children and widows and old aged persons. HIV AIDS infected persons and other who need a helping hand shall also be taken care of. The population of transgender community in the Mumbai city is over 2,00,000 and there are seven different sects headed by the Nayak of each cult. Most of these are living a nomadic life and are below poverty line. There is no provision for their employment and welfare and hence there was a urgent need to act in this direction. Over 80 percent of the Transgender persons are said to have been tested positive for dreaded disease like HIV AIDS and the efforts by existing NGOs is not up to the mark. There are a few NGOs working in red light areas of the city but they are just trying to bring about awareness of disease. Preventive measures and education is also looked after these NGOs. But this is not the solution. Unless and until the alternate source of

     Income and education is not provided to these illiterate and poor community members, there shall be no drastic changes in their attitude and we at EKTA FOUNDATION know and are aware of the facts and figures related to major problems faced by the community members. 

     To start with from zero level we hope to grow stronger and stronger day by day with the support we expect from you. There can be a package deal finalized between us for the support you lend. You shall get the credit for the support you lend. Our project Manager and consultant shall be pleased to visit you and check out how best we may proceed. 

     We propose to educate the members of our community. There are a few educated members who shall take initiative to teach others and try to provide means of earnings other than sex work or alms and begging. There are a few old aged transgender who are sick and are not in a position to make earnings. Apart from education and assistance to old aged members, providing medical assistance shall be our major concern. Counseling and bringing about awareness shall also be our major task for attaining our goals. There are many arenas for working and all we need is support which I am sure you shall shower on us.

PROJECTIONS

     Hijra Community has no representation with either Government Authorities, Semi- Government or Non-Governmental Organizations and hence making a room for representing our community shall be our first priority. We hope to build up a strong base to boost up our community and bring it to lime light. 

     Our projections shall be to set up educational classrooms not giving any certificates but helping in changing the attitude and aptitude to lead a safe and happy life. Education is the first road to success and hence educating our community members shall have first priority. We hope to receive co-operation from all NGOs for this project. 

     Over 70 percent of our community members are affected with dreaded HIV virus and providing Medical assistance is also equally important for a healthy society and hence shall be on priority list. As HIV AIDS has affected most of our sisters, our responsibility has increased manifold. The Government facilities are not up to mark and hence we shall have to take drastic steps to make available medication to our community members. 

     Developing skills and training centers for manufacturing hand made products shall also be on our priority list. There are varieties of hand made products that have great demand not only on our country but in the international market as well. This shall help our members make some perks. 

     There are many more portfolios that shall be added as we grow stronger and stronger.
