- Talk calls for fair treatment of intersex children
Most expectant parents look forward to hearing the announcement in the delivery room, "Congratulations … it's a boy!" or "Congratulations … it's a girl!"
These children have a condition known as intersexuality — an umbrella term that refers to a child that is not definitively male or female due to an atypical sexual anatomy. Hermaphrodites — those born with both male and female genitalia — are one example of intersexuality.

An Intersex Primer
Author: DaleLynn Sims Access: Public Domain Date: Thursday, January 22, 2004
Abstract: A transsexual and an intersexual have much in common in that both types of individuals suffer from a certain dysphoria about their bodies when faced with society. Whereas the body dysphoria of a transsexual may be felt, the body dysphoria of a intersexual is overt and obvious. However, society is much more interventionistic when dealing with intersexuals. In the U.S. five intersexual infants are assigned at birth, without consent. How do intersexuals cope with body dysphoria? Do intersexuals see gender reassignment surgery as the cure? DaleLynn Sims, of Bodies Like Ours, a non-profit support site for Intersexuals, reports on Intersexuality. http://www.transgression.com/Magazine/ViewArticleAbstract.aspx?ArticleId=10086

Comments
The SCC event presentation data were quite substantive -- really had those thoughts in overdrive and I can understand that running over a time allotment is the natural result of being the veritable journal of information you are. Your entire KindredSpiritLakeside site is very impressive as a resource for transgender (intersexed included) informatics. Being quite well read on the topical data and current therapies, I thought I knew a lot about the issues (and answers thereto) transgendered persons face in today's society. Your cross references and testamonial links were both interesting very enlightening. In reality, I know next to nothing because to really KNOW transsexuality you've got to live it. Much pertinent data cannot be had from books because they remain largely unwritten. Therefore, lacking an experiential inventory from which to draw I must rely on the experiences of others. It's not ALL anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, sociology, and psychology.
