Paula's Story
Reflections of GRS in Montreal
Ok girls you paid for your GRS and now your nervous excited and trying to figure out if your doing the right thing, well I was all the above but it was a piece of cake! The main thing now is to pay attention to details and relax! Very important, very important if you smoke quit and don’t say you can t because you can, come on now look back at all the roadblocks you have crossed --- you can do this too!! I had my GRS with Dr Brassard on 13 January 2003, arriving at the residence on Saturday 11 January.
Hormones them too stop about a month before it s really easy I didn’t miss them much and just had some hot flashes not bad. The little to do’s really are important look back at the last couple of years in your life therapy electro job and family issues the expenses ---- hey girl you come a long way and you got a lot of living to do --- make things easy on yourself!! Weight is another issue I struggled to get down to 200lbs but I did it, in the 18 months prior from when I started HRT I weighted 283 lbs that s 83lbs I lose in 18 months!
Ok nerves, yes I was nervous scared but never once did I think about backing out, about 3 weeks before my date reality hit. Then I started doing the little details stocking up on easy to make meals, cleaned the house a zillion times bought all my needed things k-y from E-bay (cheaper) paper towels dish washing soap moist towellets etc. The 3 days before I left I settled down then I was counting the hours once you get to Montreal you can t wait to get it over with and the time just flew by for me prepping for the GRS is easy shave the area take the 2 enemas and fill out the forms. That was it, easy but of course by now you’ll be counting the minutes!
After the GRS I woke up sore, not in pain, and groggy. I called home then a few friends, in the 10 hrs after surgery I racked up 200 minutes on the cell phone (be careful my phone bill for the 13 days was over $400!)
Before the GRS I was worried about being bored and it would be a long 13 days the days flew by and I really didn’t want to leave! I wasn’t in a lot of pain at any time (after 3 days I was on Tylenol only!) The food was so good and staff at the residence were beyond nice, they are angels!!
I m sorry this so brief but the main thing to remember is just be good to yourself you’ve been through a lot to get where you are now , more than most people could handle now you just have to pay attention to details and you’ll be ok and just remember GRS is just the icing on the cake, you are a woman!!
Hugs to all Paula
