Silvia García Dauder, an oddity since my early childhood, I have always passionately wanted to politicize gender and sex, and therefore, I advocate feminist and queer activism in order to resist all the different forms of normative violence in my desire to create new possibilities and spaces, spaces that we wish for and where we can live but which destabilize the current order imposed on relationships, bodies and our awareness.
I have a Ph.D. in social psychology and am a professor of social psychology and feminist theory in Madrid. After finishing my doctoral thesis, I was able to publish part of it in the book, Psicología y Feminismo (ed. Narcea), and together with the Queer task force (Grupo de trabajo Queer) I participated in editing and translating a provocatively mischievous anthology El eje del mal es heterosexual. Figuraciones, movimientos y prácticas feministas queer (ed. Traficantes de sueños). (Note: the title in English would be: “The axis of evil is heterosexual. The power of the imagination, movements and queer feminist practice”). I also collaborated in publishing the book Otras inapropiables. Feminismos desde las fronteras (ed. Traficantes de sueños). (Note: In English “Inappropiated others. Feminisms from the borderlands”), an anthology with texts from Black and Chicana feminist theory.
As a result of my desire to integrate my work with my activism, I have participated in several research projects about Science, Technology and Gender, in order to better understand how different technologies use science to control sex/gender/desire (basically within the fields of psychology and medicine). As a result of my political anger over the different forms of social and psycho-medical violence against people who resist the current cognitive dualism, I became interested in the intersex movement and discovered OII. After reading its materials and forums, I learned a lot and continue to learn, and am very excited in staking out a common ground for the rich commonalities in the con-fusions between queer feminist and intersex political action for real human rights.
